Description
The Waddington monument, located approximately 10 meters south of the Church of St Peter, is a family monument from the mid to late 19th century. It commemorates various members of the Waddington family, including Jeremiah Waddington (who died in 1850), his wife Sarah (who died in 1855), five of their children (who died between 1811 and 1859), and four children of Humphrey and Sarah Waddington (who died between 1846 and 1858, all in infancy). The monument is made of finely dressed sandstone and is designed in the Gothic style, taking the form of a free-standing spire. It features a square base, a plinth adorned with a band of quatrefoils, and a cinquefoil panel on each side, each with inscriptions, topped by a carved crocketed pinnacle. The monument forms a group with the Chaffer monument located to the south, the Kay monument approximately 20 meters to the south, and the Church of St Peter.
