Description
11 and 13 Marsden Road is a pair of cottages that were originally part of a handloom weavers' colony, now combined into a single dwelling. They date from the late 18th century or early 19th century and have been altered over time. The cottages are built from coursed squared sandstone with quoins, which have been cleaned, and feature a stone slate roof. The design is a double-depth plan, with each cottage being single-fronted. The building has two storeys and features four windows arranged as two pairs. The doorways, which were originally in the center, are now covered by a large 20th-century gabled porch. Each cottage has a three-light mullioned window at the ground floor, with square-cut flush mullions, and two vertical-rectangular windows above. All windows have plain surrounds and 20th-century glazing. There is a gable chimney to the left and a cut-down ridge chimney in the center. The interior has not been inspected.
