Description
This is a pair of farmhouses, originally built under a single roof and now used separately as a farmhouse and a cottage. They likely date from the early 17th century, and have been altered since. The buildings are constructed of coursed squared sandstone with quoins, and have a slate roof. The plan is rectangular, with four bays divided equally. The south-facing elevation, with a gable to the road, features a doorway on each side of the centre. The left doorway has a blocked four-centred head, while the right doorway has depressed mullioned windows on each floor. The left house has three- and five-light windows on the ground floor, and the right house has four- and five-light windows on the ground floor. All ground-floor windows have hoodmoulds. Both houses have three-light windows on the first floor. A ridge chimney sits at the junction of the two houses, and a large external chimney is located on the right gable, featuring offsets, a squint-like fire window at ground floor to the rear, and a recessed square window on each floor (formerly two lights, lacking mullions). The rear elevation has a two-light window at ground floor, along with several smaller or altered windows, plus a lean-to addition to each part. The interior has been largely altered, but a chamfered depressed arched doorway in the central partition wall suggests the buildings were originally constructed to accommodate related households.
