Description

This is an early to mid-19th century town house, now partially used as a shop. It is located on the east side of Upper Dicconson Street, Wigan, and forms a group with numbers 1, 3, and 5. The house is built of red brick in Flemish bond, characterized by paler brick headers that create a speckled appearance. It has sandstone dressings and a slate roof, following a double-depth, double-fronted plan. The design is Georgian in style, with two storeys and three windows arranged symmetrically. A first-floor sill band runs along the façade, and a late 19th-century brick corbel table supports the gutter. A semi-elliptical headed doorway is accentuated by a gauged brick surround and a recessed Tuscan doorcase. The doorway features a wooden door with two round-headed raised panels and a plain overlight. The windows are sash windows, lacking glazing bars; those on the ground floor are unhorned, and all have wedge lintels. A 20th-century addition now links the house to numbers 1, 3, and 5 on the right. The interior has been remodelled.
