Description

Stocks inscribed "John Wood Constable 1730". Made of stone with renewed wooden foot restraints, the stocks feature heavy ends, one of which is sheathed in cast iron as a remedial measure. The ends are grooved halfway up on the front and rear faces, have shaped heads, and are designed for foot restraints. They were formerly located outside the Ashton-Under-Lyne workhouse and were presented by Isaac Watts Boulton, Justice of the Peace.
