Description

Tower Mill is a cotton spinning mill located on Park Road in Dukinfield, built around 1890. It features a structure likely made of cast iron and steel with brick cladding and a flat, probably concrete roof. The mill stands four storeys high with a basement and measures 17 by 4 bays, showcasing pilasters that emphasize the corners. It has Italianate decorative elements, wide windows separated by narrow pilasters on the upper two storeys, which rise from a continuous stone sill on the third storey. The mill includes yellow brick heads throughout and decorative yellow brick corbelling at the eaves.

A stair and water tower projects from the south wall, aligning with the internal divisions, and there is an internal engine house at the rear. The tower rises above the eaves in two stages, featuring the mill's name in terracotta lettering within a recessed panel, along with lunettes over the upper windows beneath the parapet. An office block was added around 1900 at the angle to the west of the tower, which is two storeys high and has a five-window range, with the taller lower storey adorned with yellow brick dressings. A chimney and boiler house are situated next to the engine house at the rear. The mill is recognized as a good, small-scale example of a late 19th-century mill that remains largely intact and is a notable feature in the Tame Valley industrial landscape.
