Description
West Hill High School for Boys is a former house that was converted into a school in 1822 for William Harrison, a cotton manufacturer. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features a slate roof. It has a central-staircase plan with five bays and two storeys. The exterior includes a projecting plinth, a first-floor band, and an eaves cornice with a blocking course. There is an enclosed tetrastyle Ionic porch, along with four ground-floor windows and five first-floor windows, all fitted with iron glazing bars and ashlar sills. The roof is hipped. On the right side, there are a total of seven bays, with the fourth and fifth bays being advanced and featuring a large open pediment supported by giant pilasters. The interior has been significantly altered.
