Description

Stocks, possibly from the 17th century, made of gritstone and wood. They consist of two stone uprights that are approximately 60 centimeters high, featuring grooves on the inner face. The wooden footboard is in two pieces and has four holes; it is secured by two iron staples, preventing the upper part from moving. The stocks are located near the south side of the Market Cross, likely intended for a victim to sit on the lower step. They are also designated as Scheduled Ancient Monument No 418, along with the cross.
