Description
This drinking fountain, located on the west side of Main Street in Ripley, was built in 1907 and features a statue that likely dates back to the 18th century. It has a gritstone plinth that measures approximately 2 metres long and 1 metre wide, with the total height of the plinth and statue reaching about 2 metres. The side of the plinth facing the street has a central recessed panel that bears the inscription: "A Gift to Ripley / from / The Hon Alicia Margaret / Dame Ingilby / 1907". This inscription is flanked by taps and cuphooks. The statue depicts a boar. Dame Alicia was the wife of Sir Henry Day Ingilby, who passed away in 1911. Her gift was particularly significant as a few years later, Sir Henry's brother, William, closed the three inns in the village.
