Description
Widowscroft Farmhouse is a 19th-century laithe-house, marked "RH 1837" on the keystone above the barn door. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building has a double-depth central-staircase plan and consists of two storeys, along with an adjoining barn and byre, all under one roof. The central door is framed by a square-cut stone surround and has a hoodmould above it. Each floor has two 3-light chamfered stone mullion windows, also with hoodmoulds. The farmhouse includes shaped gutter brackets, coped gables with kneelers, and two ridge chimney stacks that have oversailing courses.
To the right, the barn features a large barn door with a segmental arch, which has a carved and dated keystone depicting a stag's head. There is an additional door to the right with a square-cut surround, and the gable of the barn has three lancet vents, each with hoodmoulds. At the rear, there is a small two-storey wing that is topped with ornate finials.
