Description
These are two cottages located on Meadow Bank in Longdendale and date from 1679, as evidenced by the inscription "1679 TH IH" on a door lintel. The cottages are constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and a graduated stone slate roof. Number 3 is a double-depth building with a rear wing and two storeys. Number 5 has a lower roofline and a 20th-century flat roof extension to the rear. Stone quoins are visible.
Number 3 has two bays and a gabled porch in the second bay, featuring a shaped lintel inscribed "1698 IH AH." An arched window is located to the left of the porch. It has a three-light double-chamfered stone mullion window on the ground floor, and two similar two-light windows on the first floor. The left gable is rendered and incorporates a 20th-century bow window. Number 5 has a three-light window on the ground floor, where the mullions have been removed, and two two-light windows on the first floor. Two ridge chimney stacks are present.
