Description
Wilshaw Dale Cottage and Wilshaw Dale Farmhouse are two adjoining houses located on Wilshaw Road in Ashton-under-Lyne. The date "1812" is inscribed on the door lintel of Wilshaw Dale Cottage. The buildings are constructed from hammer-dressed stone and feature a slate roof. They consist of a total of 3 bays and 2 storeys, with later additions to the rear of the Farmhouse that are not of special interest.
The Cottage comprises bays 2 and 3, which include a central 6-panel door with a square-cut stone surround and a dated lintel. It has three windows with stone lintels and sills, featuring 20th-century casements, as well as one bow window. Bay 1, which is the Farmhouse, has a central gable entrance with an ogee-arched head. Three of the four windows in this bay also have ogee-arched heads, all adorned with fanciful leaded interlacing. The fourth window is a 20th-century casement with a stone lintel and sill. Additionally, the front of the Farmhouse has another ogee-headed window in bay 1. The buildings are topped with brick ridge chimney stacks.
