Description

Wentworth Cottage and Wentworth House are a pair of houses dated 1853, built in the Tudor Gothic style. They are constructed of squared stone with ashlar dressings and have Welsh slate roofs. The houses have two storeys and three bays, with a recessed central section between the gabled end bays. The taller left bay features a four-light bay window with a moulded cornice and parapet; above this is a three-light window and a small, lozenge-shaped gable light with a dated panel bearing the Allendale arms. The centre bay has a four-light window and a two-light window in a gabled half-dormer above. The right bay has a three-light and a two-light window, and a slit window in the gable. All windows have recessed, chamfered surrounds, with hoodmoulds, and the glazing has been renewed, except for the latticed slit window on the right return of the porch. A ridge stack is present, featuring four short circular shafts. The left return shows a projecting gabled porch, belonging to Wentworth House, with a vertically-panelled door under a moulded four-centred arch, an outer order, and a gable corbelled out. The right return has a projecting stepped stack. An entrance to Wentworth Cottage is at the rear. The gables have serpentine cusped bargeboards and moulded finials with pendants.
