Description
This barn, located to the north-east of Old Hall Farm in Woodford, dates to the 17th century, as indicated by the datestone “ID1660” (Davenport). It has a stone plinth and is constructed of English garden wall bond brickwork under a slate roof. The barn features central opposed cart entries with a shippon and haylofts to the right, and later stables to the rear left. A full-height cart entry is flanked by a square pier to the left and an outshut to the right. There are three rows of vents to the left gable and rear gable. Alterations include a loft hatch to the gable and a datestone set within a recessed brick panel. A 20th-century door is present in the right gable, alongside a loft hatch with a brick dripmould. The interior reveals framed internal partitions and king-post roof trusses with inclined struts. An interior photograph is documented in D. Cook’s 1982 publication, English Cottages and Farmhouses.
