Description
The Bents is a house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with 18th century brickwork. It is currently undergoing major sympathetic reconstruction. The building is timber framed with wattle and daub infill, set on an ashlar and rubble plinth. The facade features English garden wall bond brick, and it has a Kerridge stone-slate roof. The plan is L-shaped, consisting of a small hall and solar, with much of the original timber framing still intact. On the left side, there is a 5-light wood mullioned window with a coved overhang in a gabled dormer.
Inside, there is a chamfered firebeam on a chamfered heckpost, along with chamfered ceiling beams that have a flat stop. The solar contains a fireplace with traces of a wattle and daub hood. The roof features tiebeam and collar trusses.
