Description
Lane Side Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse located on Blossoms Lane in Woodford. It features a cruck-framed structure with square-panel wall frames, a thatched roof, and brick stacks. The building has a three-unit plan with a hearth-passage and one storey plus an attic. The front of the farmhouse retains a stone plinth and most of its timber members, including an oak batten door that is obscured by a later porch, and two 2-light casement windows. There are three ridge chimney stacks.
At the rear, there are three 2-light windows, one of which is a fire window, along with a gabled dormer window. The left gable displays a complete cruck frame, featuring a tie beam, cruck spur, and a collar post that supports the ridge purlin. Inside, a similar cruck frame is found between the first and second units. The interior includes a large inglenook fireplace with a cambered bressummer, which is supported by a chamfered sphere post with stepped stops. Chamfered beams are present throughout, and the internal walls are constructed of framed materials.
