Description
The tower and spire of the now demolished Church of St George with St Barnabas, built in 1858 by E H Shellard, is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and is designed in the Decorated style. The tower is three stages high and features angle buttresses. There is a four-light window on the west side with quatrefoil tracery, a clock above it, and a three-light bell chamber window set in a stilted arch. The tower is topped with a broach spire that includes lucarnes. To the east, there is a plain moulded arch leading to the former nave, along with remains of the springing of the nave arcade.
