Description
The Former Brunswick Wesleyan Schools, built in 1887, is now used as offices. This building features coursed and squared rubble with ashlar dressings and a steeply pitched Welsh slate roof, showcasing a Gothic style reminiscent of ecclesiastical architecture. The structure has two storeys, with the principal storey at first-floor level.
On the exterior, there is a moulded arched doorway at the base of the tower, which has chamfered angles. Above this doorway, a three-light wood mullioned and transomed window is topped by a steep relieving arch over an ashlar lintel. A wood lantern is positioned behind the parapet above, with steep gablets leading into a squat spire. The main gable alongside the tower features paired three-light mullioned and transomed windows with relieving arches. Above these, there are paired arched windows set in a moulded arch, with a circular window in the spandrel. This central section projects slightly and is flanked by narrow windows on each floor. A doorway to the right balances the one at the base of the tower.
There is an additional lower gable beyond, which includes four-light mullioned and transomed windows. The west elevation has a six-window return that is symmetrically arranged beyond the tower, featuring advanced gables and a central four-window range divided by full-height pilasters, each with two-light mullioned and transomed windows with relieving arches over the lower windows. A central canted gable projects from the north wall, showcasing a four-light mullioned and transomed window on the first floor and paired two-light mullioned and transomed windows below. The interior has not been inspected.
