Description

The King's Arms Public House is a public house built in 1879, located on a corner site in Salford. It features red brick construction with stone dressings and a conical Welsh slate roof adorned with roof glazing and twin spirelets, all designed in a Gothic style.

The building has two storeys and an attic. The elevation facing Bloom Street includes a six-window range of round-headed sash windows on the first floor, each topped with linked stone mouldings that form four-centred arches, and stone sills connected by a string course. The ground floor mirrors this design but incorporates coursed rubble and a blue brick plinth. The entrance bay features a round-headed doorway flanked by short banded granite columns with stiff leaf capitals, a drip mould with scroll stops, and a marble mosaic reading 'King's Arms' in the spandrels, with a triple window above it.

Above the entrance, there is a decorative brickwork frieze and a stone balconette supported by wrought ironwork on machicolations, leading to triple arched-headed attic windows. The gable is stone-coped and shaped around a richly carved Royal Arms. There is a further doorway on the curved corner that is now blocked. Above this, a window with a balconette is present, along with a gable displaying 'King's Arms' in mosaic.

On the Sackville Street side, there is a three-window return, featuring a central door and a gabled dormer above. The roofline is variegated, showcasing tall stacks and five gabled dormers in alternate bays, separated by a bracketed cornice with a plain parapet. A long glazed and leaded lantern in the roof provides top lighting to the attic room.
