Description

The Hewitt family chest tomb, located to the north-west of the Church of St. Paul, dates from around 1788. It is made of stone and features an inscribed slab. The chest has fluted sides and is adorned with husk garlands and other classical motifs. The inscription commemorates Margaret, the daughter of Peter and Mary Hewitt of Peel Hall, who died on October 21, 1788, as well as their sons William, Peter, and Thomas, with Peter Hewitt passing away in 1819 and Mary, his wife, also mentioned.
