Description

The Church of St Mary the Virgin is a church dating from 1725, with extensions added in the later 18th century and further alterations in 1842, and a 20th-century vestry. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with a slate roof. The church comprises a 5-bay nave with plain segment-headed window openings, now fitted with replacement double-mullion frames. A Norman-style gabled porch is located to the north, leading to a polygonal west baptistry. The small chancel features a 3-lancet east window, and there is a 19th-century bellcote. The windows of the aisle are similar in style. Inside, a studded oak door is fitted with ornamental wrought hinges and an ovolo-moulding frame, alongside a round-arched nave arcade and king-post roof trusses. The church stands on the site of an earlier church.
