Description

This is a house, originally built in 1834 as a residence for the head gardener at Worsley Hall Garden Centre. It is constructed of rock-faced stone with a slate roof, and includes later brick additions. The building has an L-shaped plan with an octagonal tower at an external angle and is designed in a Gothic style. The front elevation is picturesque, arranged with three bays and the prominent octagonal tower. The tower is topped with a conical roof and features quoins and bracketed eaves. The first bay has a gable with a finial, copings and kneelers. A gabled porch originally projected in the second bay, but the Tudor-arched doorway with hoodmould has been converted into a window. The windows are predominantly single and two-light designs with chamfered stone mullions; one mullion has been removed. Most windows are also fitted with hoodmoulds. The tower extends to a third story. The building features cross-shaped chimney stacks constructed of diagonally-set ashlar. A brick addition is located to the right side of the building. The rear elevation is similar but less ornate.
