Description
Worsley Hall Ice House is an ice house built in the 1840s for the 1st Earl of Ellesmere. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone, with brick used internally. The structure features a barrel-vaulted design that creates a mound at ground level, with access provided at one end. Externally, only a blocked door is visible, set in a segmental section of stonework that mirrors the shape of the internal vault. Although the interior was not inspected, it is reported to contain an unusual vaulted approach chamber with stone-lined doorways, five stone steps leading down, and a deep shaft that tapers downwards.
