Brick with Welsh slate roofs. 3 storeys, 8-window range to The Crescent, return elevation a 4-window range with lower wing beyond. Elevation to The Crescent comprises 2 units, symmetrically designed with advanced central block of 4 bays, housing entrances in outer bays. 8-panelled doors in projecting Ionic doorcases. 12-pane sash windows throughout, with flat-arched gauged brick heads. Continuous sill-band to first floor. Plain eaves cornice. Angle pilasters. End wall and axial stacks. Return elevation to No.1 Acton Square, a 4-window range with advanced central bay with doorway in projecting Ionic porch to left of centre. 12-pane sash windows with flat-arched gauged brick heads, and sill-band to first floor. End wall stack. Known as Joule House, a plaque records that James Prescott Joule, scientist born in Salford in 1818, lived and worked in the house. INTERIOR not inspected.
