Description

This is a terrace of seven cottages located on Broad Lane in Rochdale, believed to have originated as back-to-back cottages around 1790. The cottages are constructed of dressed, watershot stone with a stone slate roof. Each cottage has a rectangular plan, one room wide and two rooms deep, with the main entrance situated to the right of the front elevation, except for number 71, which has its entrance on the left. The buildings are arranged over three storeys. The front doors are framed by monolithic jambs and lintels. The ground floor windows are flat-faced stone mullioned, featuring four lights each, except for number 71, which has three. The first-floor windows originally had eight lights each, but three have been blocked in except number 71, which had six, now featuring four. The second-floor windows originally had six to eight lights but have also been partially blocked, now containing three, four, or five lights. Sill banding is present on the first and second floors, and a stone eaves gutter runs along the roofline.
