Description
Hanson House is a late 18th-century house located on Grains Road in Saddleworth. It is constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone and features a slate roof. The building has a single-depth, four-bay plan and stands two storeys tall, with a small parallel range at the rear. There is a blocked door between the first and second bays, and another door with a square-cut surround between the second and third bays, each topped with a plain hood and a datestone: "IAB 1770" (indicating John Buckley) and another marked "? 1710". The ground floor has four two-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion windows, while the first floor features larger nine and eight-light windows with king mullions and a continuous sill band. The left gable end is rendered and was formerly attached to a barn, while the right gable has four two-light windows. The rear range is of a later date and includes a two-light window similar to those on the front.
