Description

Low Bank is a late 18th-century house, with later alterations and 20th-century additions, located in Saddleworth, near CastleShaw. The house is built of hammer-dressed stone, with a graduated stone slate roof. It has a total of five bays and two storeys. Bays two and three form the original part of the house and feature quoins, a four-light and a three-light recessed flat-faced mullion window on the ground floor, a three-light double-chamfered mullion window on the first floor, and a later window opening. To the left is a later addition, incorporating three and two lights (on the ground floor) and a ten-light recessed flat-faced mullion window (on the first floor), a lean-to conservatory, and two-light gable windows. Bay four contains a door with a square-cut surround, and bay five is a 20th-century addition. Two ridge chimney stacks are present. The rear of the house has 20th-century window openings. The building is included on the list for its group value.
