Description
This is a row of four cottages located at 136 to 142 Crab Lane in Blackley, Manchester. They were built in the early 19th century, with Nos. 138 and 140 constructed in 1812, and Nos. 136 and 142 added at the ends around 1820. The cottages are made of brown and pink brick and feature a stone slate roof. Each cottage has a rectangular plan and is single-fronted, with two storeys and a four-window range. There are vertical joints to the left and right of the central pair (Nos. 138 and 140), which have round-headed doorways and three-light horizontal sliding sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor of No. 140 has pseudo shutters. No. 136 features a round-headed doorway and 20th-century three-light casements with glazing bars, while No. 142 has a square-headed doorway and recent casement windows with heavy glazing bars and pseudo-shutters that are pierced with small hearts. The row includes a gable chimney to the left and three ridge chimneys. The rear and interior of the cottages have not been inspected.
