Description

Nos. 69-77 Lever Street and No. 10 Bradley Street are a row of five townhouses, now partly used for commercial purposes, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with some alterations. They are constructed of brown brick in Flemish bond and feature a slate roof. The buildings have a double-depth plan, with each house being single-fronted and having individual back extensions.

The row stands three storeys high over basements and features a symmetrical arrangement of windows: two sets of two windows and one set of three windows across the front. The doorways are located to the left for all houses except No. 77, which has its doorway on the right. All doorways are round-headed and framed by open-pedimented Tuscan doorcases. The doorcases at Nos. 75 and 77 have fluted entablatures, and the doorways feature semi-circular fanlights with radiating glazing bars, except for No. 75, which has a plain fanlight, and No. 77, where the entire doorway is blocked with concrete blocks.

Each house has one window in the basement and two on each floor above, except for No. 75, which has three windows on the second floor, and No. 77, which has three on the first floor. Most windows are segmental-headed, with raised sills; the first and second floors of Nos. 69, 71, and 73 have 4-pane sash windows, while the others have altered glazing. The eaves of Nos. 69-73 are adorned with dentilled and modillioned wooden detailing, though this is damaged. There are four ridge chimney stacks.

Connected at the rear is No. 10 Bradley Street, which is a three-storey building with five windows featuring cross windows and casements under brick segmental arches. The doors and windows on the ground floor of this building are partly blocked. This row of houses forms a group with Nos. 4, 6, and 8 Bradley Street.
