Description

The Boer War Memorial, located in St Ann's Square, Manchester, was created in 1907 by the sculptor Hamo Thornycroft. It features a marble plinth and a bronze-clad pedestal topped with a marble cornice. The memorial has a square base and a slightly tapered square pedestal adorned with bronze plaques that list the names of those who fell in the war. Atop the pedestal is a bronze sculptural group depicting a bare-headed rifleman who is protecting a wounded comrade.
