House, now childrens' home. Early to mid C18, greatly enlarged in earlier and later C19; altered. Pink-washed roughcast render on brick, slate roofs. Irregular plan in 3 portions (and 3 or more builds); the earliest, forming the entrance block at the west end, double-depth with a large semicircular bow added to the front and canted wings to the sides, plus an outshut linking it to later additions at the rear. Two-and-a-half storeys; a symmetrical 5-window facade dominated by a central 2-storey 3-window bow, which has a flight of 3 semi-circular steps up to a doorway with an open-pedimented Ionic doorcase with decorated capitals, panelled door and fanlight with radiating metal tracery, segmental-headed 12-pane sashed windows with exposed boxes, and a dentilled cornice. The main range either side of the bow has a 1st-floor band (interrupted by the bow) and similar sashed windows but with keystones, and a C19 roof with projected verges at the gables; the canted 2-storey wings have sashed windows without glazing bars, and dentilled cornices. Additions to the rear. Interior: front range has hallway with modillion cornice, and inner doorway with large fanlight; centre portion contains former billiard room; rear block contains former ballroom with small proscenium stage.
