Description
This boundary stone, dated 1853, marks the historic boundary between Prestwich (in Bury) and Salford. Constructed from ashlar stone, it has a triangular shape. Inscriptions read "PRESTWICH/ SALFORD" and on the chamfered top, "BOUNDARY STONE". The stone denotes the boundary, which runs along the line of Singleton Brook. It was likely erected in 1853, coinciding with the formation of the County Borough of Salford, which merged Broughton, Pendleton, and Salford. The stone is part of a group that also includes boundary stones located in Littleton Road and Singleton Road.
