Description
The middle part of the main block of Nazareth House is a late 18th-century mansion built by the Scholes family of Prestwich. It is constructed of reddish-brown brick and features two ample storeys with a symmetrical façade. The building has five large windows with fixed glazing bars, which are a 20th-century approximation of the originals. A part-glazed door is set within a substantial porch supported by paired Ionic columns, topped with an entablature and blocking course. The hipped slate roof is positioned behind a low parapet over a cornice, which has flat brackets and is formed into a pediment that crowns three slightly advanced middle bays. To the left, there is a slightly set-back two-bay wing that appears to be contemporary and continues the same architectural treatment but features smaller, genuine sash windows.
