Description
This is a terrace of 18 houses, built around 1850-1860, possibly in two phases. The houses are constructed from random rubble with dressed quoins and have slate roofs. They form an L-shaped layout, creating two sides of an open square facing allotments. The houses are two storeys high, with a three-storey block at each end of the terrace. Most windows have been replaced, but some retain their original six-pane sash windows within the original openings, and all have wedge lintels. Doorways have simple architraves. The end houses feature stone canopies, supported by iron brackets, over the doorways, and round arched windows within the attic storey. Brick stacks are visible on the end walls. Integral stone walls enclose the yards to the rear of the terrace. The interior of the houses has not been inspected. These houses were built as part of the industrial community of Eagley Bank, developed in conjunction with Chadwick's Eagley Mills.
