Description

79 and 80 Barrow Bridge Road are a pair of houses built around 1831 and later altered. They are constructed from coursed and squared stone and feature hipped slate roofs. The buildings are two storeys tall and have a six-window range, consisting of two-unit dwellings. The doorway to No. 79 is located on the right and has been inserted or renewed, with side-lights flanking the door. No. 80 has a side entrance in an added porch, which is built at the angle of a rear wing that was probably also added against an earlier wing. The windows have painted wedge lintels, with some surviving 12-pane sashes in No. 79, while the others have been renewed. There is one chimney at the rear of the ridge and one at each end. The interior has not been inspected. These houses are part of the model village of Barrow Bridge, established in 1831 by Robert Gardner to serve the nearby Dean Mills, which he also built.
