Description

Acton Grange Bridge is a road bridge over the Bridgewater Canal, built around 1770 by James Brindley for the Duke of Bridgewater. The bridge is constructed of brown brick with stone dressings. It features a deep segmental arch with stone springers and a projecting stone band around the brick voussoirs. The abutments are curved in plan and battered in section. The parapets have flush stepped sandstone copings, and there are sandstone retaining walls along the canal banks beneath the bridge. There are small patches of repair in harder red brick, but otherwise, the bridge remains unaltered.
