Description

Thomasons Bridge over the Bridgewater Canal is a farm road bridge built around 1770 by James Brindley for the Duke of Bridgewater. It is constructed of brown brick with stone dressings. The bridge features a deep segmental arch with a raised band of sandstone above the brick voussoirs. The abutments are curved in plan and battered in section. The parapets have flush stepped copings made of sandstone, and there are sandstone walls along the canal bank beneath the bridge.
