Description

The building is a Village Hall, formerly the village school, and an attached dwelling known as No. 134, which was the former Schoolmaster's House. It features a datestone from 1885, attributed to Sir G G Gilbert Greenall. The structure is built from Flemish bond brown brick with stone dressings and has a Westmorland green graded slate roof. The chimney on the ridge is made of stone and brick, featuring a plinth and six attached octagonal flues.

The Hall has a coped gable made of moulded sandstone at the right end, while the attached house has front and end gables and is two stories high with two bays and one window. The Hall includes a stone-coped plinth, a weathered cill band, and stone-quoined buttresses. The verges are plain with exposed rafters. The Hall has three-light pointed windows, with the gable window featuring bar tracery and leaded glazing. The Hall's entrance includes a framed and boarded door within pointed arched doorways. The house has square-headed, mullioned, leaded windows and a framed and boarded door. No. 134 showcases well-executed detailing both externally and internally.

Inside, the building features six-panel doors with moulded stiles and rails, as well as a staircase with newels and turned balusters. In front of the Hall, there is a cast iron railing with square cast bracketted newels set on a tapered sandstone base.
