Description

This is a terrace of four former fustian-cutters' cottages dating from the early 19th century, located in Arley Grove. The cottages are constructed of painted brick, with one being rendered, and have grey slate roofs with flush end gables. Each cottage is originally one window wide and three storeys high. They each feature a round-arched doorway; number 3 has a boarded door, while the others have been replaced. Numbers 3, 5, and 7 have recessed brick spandrels above the doorways, and number 1 has a brought-in radial-bar fan. Numbers 3 and 7 retain original 16-pane and 12-pane recessed sash windows under skewback cambered arches to the lower and middle storeys, as well as 3-light horizontally-sliding sashes to the original cutting lofts. Numbers 1 and 5 have replacement windows. The fustian-cutting lofts have been sub-divided.
