Description
Wildersmoor Hall Farmhouse is probably of mid-17th century origin, with alterations made later. The original oak-frame structure has largely been replaced with 18th and 19th century brickwork, though some original sandstone remains. The roof is covered with stone slates, with some sections at the rear replaced with grey slates. A longitudinal ridge chimney is located opposite the front door, and a flush gable chimney is on the left side. The farmhouse is a single storey building with attic bedrooms. It originally comprised three rooms – the right and middle rooms are of 17th century construction, while the left room is a later 18th century addition built in brick. The front door is sheltered by a 19th century gabled porch supported by brackets; a kitchen door is set beneath a cambered arch to the left, and both are boarded. One dormer window has an oak frame. The windows are modern replacements with six panes of glass, designed to blend with the original style. A full-length, oak-framed outshut is located at the rear. Inside, the entrance lobby features a stone baffle. The central room contains an inglenook with an oak bressumer and an ovolo ceiling beam. The room to the right, likely formerly with an inglenook, has rougher chamfered oak beams, as does the left room. Significant amounts of original oak framing are visible internally, both downstairs and in the bedrooms.
