Description

Moore Lane Bridge, built around 1894, is a swing bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal. It features a steel segmental arched riveted structure with a lattice parapet, built-up stanchions, and cross-bracing, along with bracing across the carriageway at a high level. The bridge is operated from the north bank (Penketh Civil Parish) using hydraulic power, similar to the Old Quay Bridge in Runcorn, which has a comparable arrangement of support buildings topped with hipped slate roofs. The southern end of the bridge is located in Moore Civil Parish, Halton Borough. The engineer responsible for the design was Edward Leader Williams.
