Description
Nos 39, 41, and 43 on Bridge Street, known as Howard Buildings, are Victorian structures featuring shop fronts on the ground floor. The buildings are constructed from red sandstone and rise to two storeys. The first floor has seven segmental arched windows with carved arches, and two of these windows have carved relief panels above them. The top floor includes two windows in each bay, with a decorative frieze featuring a shell pattern and an egg and dart cornice. The roof is adorned with two dormers, one having a curved pediment and the other a triangular pediment. Additionally, there are four lions sejeant on the supporters of the chimneys. These buildings are part of a group that includes Nos 11, 13, 39 to 45 (odd), The Lion Hotel, and Nos 2, 4, 8 to 14 (even), as well as Nos 16, 18, 20, and Nos 22-24.
