Description

This building is a barn, granary, and shippon constructed in 1866 by John Douglas, likely for R.E. Egerton-Warburton. It is made of brick with an oak-framed gable and grey slate roofs. The structure is symmetrical, featuring a gable topped with a square steepled dovecote and weathervane at the front. The central section serves as a threshing barn with a granary above, while the shippons are located in wings on either side, both covered by lean-to roofs. The front facade includes double doors at the center, a single door on each side, divided shippon doors for each wing, and a central loading door for the granary on the upper storey. All openings are adorned with camber arches, and there are two cruciform vents in the upper storey of the granary. The date "1866" is carved on the gable frame. The interior has not been inspected. This building is comparable to other farm buildings of similar date, form, and style, such as those at Moorend Farm in Lower Kinnerton, Chester City District, which were likely built for the Grosvenors' Eaton Estate.
