Description
This is a threshing barn dating to the late 16th century, along with a cartshed and stable added in the late 18th or early 19th century, forming a building in an L-shape with blue tile roofs. The barn, situated at the rear of the yard, is oak-framed and sits upon a 2ft. 6in. sandstone plinth. It features one intermediate rail, arch bracing, and brick-nogged panels, with timbers of a large section. Boarded doors provide access to the threshing floor and hayloft. A probable 19th-century brick lean-to covers the rear opening to the threshing floor.
Inside the barn are four pairs of cruck timbers. The two eastern pairs remain complete, with collars near the apex. The two western pairs have been sawn off near the top and braced with sawn collars and kingposts. Large oak purlins are also present. To the left of the yard, two chamfered oak posts support the roof of the open cartshed. The stable, arranged with three stalls, has a hayloft above and includes a boarded door and loading door. Ad hoc timber windows with hoppers are found in the shippon and stable, maintaining character.
