Description
Nos. 53 and 55 High Street is an early 18th-century town house that has been converted into offices. It is constructed of red brick with stone detailing and features a slate roof. The building stands three stories tall and has three bays, with a two-story, two-bay wing to the west and a five-bay return to the east. The corners are accentuated by stone rusticated quoins. The entrance boasts a pedimented door case supported by Doric columns, with a fluted frieze that frames a six-panel door featuring fielded upper panels. There are stone fluted bands at the sill level of the first and second floors, as well as below the cornice. The windows are near flush sash style, fitted with glazing bars and topped with stone heads that are marked with voussoirs.
