Description
The Royal Hotel is a hotel built in the late 18th century, with later alterations. It features a brown brick exterior and a slate roof. The building is 2½ storeys high and has three bays on the front, with a seven-bay return on the east side. The entrance porch is supported by Tuscan timber columns and includes a six-panel door. Most of the windows on this elevation are sash windows. The east return has rounded stone-dressed quoining. The long east elevation has a sealed-up opening that is flanked by Tuscan columns supporting an open pediment. Further north on this elevation, there is a row of five ground floor windows with rounded heads and keystones, which are separated by rusticated piers. The first floor windows on this side are also sash windows and have external shutters.
