Description

Waterloo Bridge is a road bridge over the Bridgewater Canal, built in 1828, with a sidewalk and parapet added in 1886. It is constructed of red sandstone and features a cast iron balustraded parapet. The bridge has three arches with rustications and additional piers that have corbels supporting the footway. The balustrading consists of five sections between the bridge abutments, with decorative moulded cast iron posts. The center span displays the name "Waterloo Bridge" in interlaced rings at carriageway level. The posts are topped with projecting caps that feature a swan neck motif, and the balustrades are linked by floral designs.
