Description
Bridgewater House is a mansion built around 1760, constructed of brown brick with a slate roof. It has two and a half storeys and a basement. The northeast entrance front features five bays, while the northwest canal front has seven bays. A stone Doric doorcase with an open pediment frames a six-panel entrance door, which is topped by a patterned arched fanlight. The entrance front displays rustications up to the ground floor level, along with stone bands at the first and second-floor sill levels and an eaves cornice with a brick parapet above. The windows are recessed sash types with glazing bars. The northwest front includes a three-window splay bay, and the roof is hipped with lead rolls. Inside, there are panelled shutters for the windows and six-panel doors. This house served as an occasional residence for the Duke of Bridgewater during the construction of the Bridgewater Canal.
