Description

The Runcorn-Widnes Road Bridge is a road bridge built between 1956 and 1961, designed by Mott Hay and Anderson. It features a single steel latticework arch, with the lower surface tapering to a point at each end, resting on concrete cutwaters. The upper surface flattens out and runs horizontally to the ends of the central span. The road surface is suspended from the arch. The span measures 1,082 feet, while the total length of the bridge is 1,628 feet. At the time of its construction, it was the largest steel arch in Europe.
