Description

No. 6 Shipgate Street is a small town house built around 1860. It features stone-dressed Flemish bond brown brick and a grey slate roof that runs parallel to the front. The building has a cellar, two storeys, and an attic, with two bays. At the base, there is a rusticated two-course sandstone plinth, likely older than the house itself, which includes a cellar vent.

The entrance on the right has a replaced framed and boarded door with a four-pane overlight above it. The front has a tripartite window with two over two panes, and a sandstone string course that extends as labels over the door and window. On the second storey, there are two dual two over two pane sash windows with sandstone sills and labels.

To the left, the dormer gable features kneelers and weathered stone coping, along with a small four-pane attic sash window that has a stone sill and label. The north-east end has a small two-pane sash window on the first storey, with a string course that continues from the front, rising over the tripartite window. There is also a boarded door in a lean-to addition.

At the rear, the second storey includes a twelve-pane sash window with a stone sill and lintel, and there are two small-pane attic sashes in the gable, which also has kneelers and weathered stone coping. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value due to its contribution to the streetscape and its position.
